I would not be surprised if there are no major updates. The last thing that they would want to do is make major functional changes to an interface that a million people have come accustom to. Also think about how little the ipod interface has changed since it was first introduced.

maybe no major updates, but i don't know that major updates are needed. maybe just tweaks...adding of sms, ringtones, copy/paste, a2dp to name a few. they aren't major interface changes per se, but tweaks to make the overall experience of the iPhone better
What would you consider to be a major update? And what has prompted you to come to your opinion?
I think some of us think there "ought" to be updates to address serious shortcomings we discovered, like no copy and paste. I sound like a broken record but it's simply amazing that this thing came out without it.

Yes, I am starting to think that there WONT be any major upgrades! Steve Jobs winked and nodded to get us all to buy the iPhone (which is an unfinished product)...hinting at Flash, and how easy it would be to deliver updates.
I love this phone, but it needs A LOT of updates to add functions that I THOUGHT would have come with it. I mean, no Copy/Paste? No Multiple color-coded calanders? Come on Apple! No excuse!
This phone was NOT ready for prime-time, and needs a few updates to kick it into gear, which i feel sadly will not come

unfinished? are you serious? name me one generation one cell phone, hell, any product that was as polished and relatively bug free as the iPhone.

The reason I feel this way, (and granted I've been a Mac user since my first Apple IIC), is that It feels like Apple is putting it's own commercial interests in front of the overall usability of the phone.
YouTube is my main example. That was a great app for their marketing team to exploit, but in the world of smartphones, I guarantee more businesss users would like copy/paste, multiple calendars, the ability to edit MS office documents.
For a generation 1 phone, The GUI is above and beyond what it could have been. But the absence of so many ESSENTIAL functions is disheartening and takes away from the true potential of the iPhone.
My guess is that Apple will release major software updates that will parallel major hardware upgrades.
That's my opinion...and again...I hope I am wrong, I just cant help be [FONT="]pessimistic[/FONT].

Well said. don't mind the apparent Apple fanboys. The iPhone is lacking in a lot of areas, regardless of what anyone says.
I feel there are three kinds of people on this board.
1) The first-time smartphone users. These people wont find any flaws with the iPhone, because this is their first smartphone, and does a ton more stuff than their previous phone did. First time cell-phone users also apply.
2) The people who have come from a previous smartphone (Treo, BB, etc). These are the people who are saying the iPhone lacks certain critical features (copy/paste, better calendar, to-do's, synced notes, etc). The iPhone does pale in comparison to these phones on the feature list.
3) The Apple fanboy. Even if these people know a certain area is lacking, they take the denial route and defend the phone against any person talking bad about it.
Unfortunately, I feel this forum is filled with types 1 and 3.

That's me...I came over from a Treo 700p, and I am happy. But the treo had a lot more functionality, and was a much more productive tool.
