Updating Apps

I just need to know if when you update apps does it redownload the whole app or just the new part?

No I believe it just changed or adds or deletes files.

it is a rather large app and I have a rather small amount of download usage at home.

I can't imagine an iPhone App (except maybe Navigon) being so big as to affect your ISP download limits. If you are concerned, go find a public WiFi and download it.
Edit: Or go to a friend's house!

The navigoni found was only 45 mb is there a different one?
The app I'm talking about is 460 mb while I have another that is 1000.

Sorry. I have never heard of an App that large. You must be into specialty Apps. Nevertheless, my ISP has 100GB download so that wouldn't be a problem. If it presents a problem for you then, like I said, go to someone else's WiFi - whether public or private. What Apps are you talking about, BTW.

Maybe you should download one and see what it does, but IMO, it will not be an update, but an entire download. I may be wrong....
