I'm hoping that with the new iPhone, that Apple spends some serious development $$ on upgrading the PIM iApps. I use them with my Treo because of Palm Desktop is also very old. If Apple does release the iPhone, I sure hope they upgrade iCal, iSync and everything having to do with PIM. Address book is good, but could be better.

I actually LOVE the Address book. I do see how they could improve it in a few ways (I would LOVE a field for extensions for certain work numbers). I'm not much of an innovator, however. I'm the one who sits in the back and goes, "Oh WOW! That is so practical, why could I not think of that?"
My favorite feature about the address book is the "links" you can set up to associates or family. I work with SO many people for my job that sometimes I don't know who's doing what, and that's if I'm lucky enough to remember their names. I link them to one of the three bosses I work for and put in a brief description of what they are doing. That way if I have a blonde moment all I need to do is go to that bosses name and I have all of their "associates" and I have all their info. A simple click on their name and I'm make a phone call, sending and email, and getting on with my busy day.

As far as iCal is concerned, I live my entire life off of that thing. I LIVE on my iCal. If I didn't have it (or, God forbid it, crashes on me) I'm going to get fired because I will have lost my brain. The only difference I would like in iCal is 1) I would like to see the "TO DOs" show up in the regular days on the calendar if you insert a "complete by" date. 2) I would LOVE to be able to link an email to an event or "TO DO." I get a LOT of TO DOs through email for work and typically I just copy the entire email, paste it in the "Notes" field of the event or TO DO and write the date and title of the email so I can go back and reference it or reply to it once I have completed the requested task. It would be so fabulous if I could just click on the title or a special link that would take me directly to that email so I didn't have to search through 150 emails before I found and replied to it.

Other than that, I don't have many complaints about iCal.

The word on the street is that PIM apps are getting tweaked in Leopard, which will be iPhone's OS as well.

iCal will be getting what for me is a critical improvement: duplex editing! (story here). This will vastly improve its utility as a businesss scheduling solution.

Very cool article. I'm excited. The limits of iCal are the only reason why it is not the primary calendar system in our office. People can use it if they would like, but scheduling meetings or other group events are done through an entirely different calendar system which is far inferrior to iCal in every other way. It's a pain to maintain two calendars with weeknesses. Yeah for the upgrade to iCal! I can't wait!

You can rest assured that Apple is eves dropping into the conversations of those who go to a site for their phone. I know. ;)

How would you make Address Book better. I think it's flawless. I used it completely for syncing to my RAZR and keeping track of all of my contacts.

I think information editing and fields could be tweaked a bit. iCal really needs improvement, and I'd love to see a database app (doesn't have to be fancy) as part of iLife or iWork.

iCal and Google calendar on computer, iPhone

I'm wondering what people recommend is the best way for them to keep their life organized, iCal on the iPhone, iCal or Google calendar? I feel like if I ever get my Macbook or iPhone stolen (god forbid), I would at least have my life organized on Google calendar and export the calendars back into iCal or into iPhone. But iPhone also works like any other PDA where folks use it as a planner...
