Upgrade issues?

Do the older generation iPads have the same kinds of upgrade issues that the older iPhones do? (eg. iPhone 3G got very slow with the 4.3 update). I would like to get a first or second generation refurb but I don't even want one if I'm going to find out it gets hosed with the latest upgrade like my 3G iPhone did.

That hasn't been my experience. I use my wife's iPad (first gen) and I don't find any issues with speed. Most of my usage on that device is web browsing and photos.

And I had the 2, which I gave to my son, when I upgraded and it still works great.

Upgraded my iPad 1 to 5.1.1 when it fire came out. No problems with it thus far.
