Usage stats have only displayed '--'

I have charged my iPhone each night for the last three nights since I bought it on friday. Yesterday, after reading through several battery related threads, I used the phone until I was prompted by the phone by a large battery a hair filled with red telling me to charge it. I did this, and come the morning (1am-10am) before I un-cradled it I was greeted by the white plug in the battery icon on the wallpaper screen. I hoped to see a the usage stats change from their '--' but alas they have not all of today.

Question:

Should I
A) try to restore now despite the battery being indicated at ~30% charge
B) try to restore after a full nights charge
C) or try what A320CA suggested
Someone else suggested this and today I tried it...

After leaving my iPhone on the wall charger all night I checked this morning and found the plug in the battery icon and a green battery. However the "green" battery was not full to the end (small sliver as reported by others was still silver). So, as someone else suggested I...

1. Took it off the wall charger.
2. Unlocked phone.
3. Checked email.
4. Checked usage.
5. Plugged into laptop.
6. Noticed it was charging.

"BINGO", finally a FULL GREEN GLOWING BATTERY!

I'd suggest waiting for the software update from Apple for the battery issue. Rumors are it will be available as soon as tomorrow morning.

with a full battery (plug Icon) ..... Unplug your iPhone, open the usage window and plug your phone back in. Now wait like 30 secs. That should reset the usage meter.

Charged the phone until it had the plug icon. Unplugged and plugged into comp. No change. Unplugged and plugged back into a/c. No change. Tried what you said. No change. I also have noticed that I am not getting the "radioactive fully battery glow" I am only getting the plug icon and a battery that is almost buy not quite fully green. I am a sad panda now :(

The fact that it has happened on so many units leads me to believe that this is a software or firmware issue and will be fixed in a update.

I have to leave mine charging a good hour after the plug appears in the upper right of the screen. It takes a while but on mine it always resets the stats to 0 after a full recharge. I'll leave it charging overnite and it always works.

I wouldn't sweat it if I were you. As long as the battery seems to be holding a charge long enough, just wait for the update.

I have tried just about everything to get usage stats to show up, and NOTHING I've done has fixed it including resets and restores and charging a whole variety of different ways.

I just went to the Apple store and met with a genius. He informed me that they are no longer swapping out such defects and that I will have to wait for a software fix.

Anyone else's usage just continue to go up while the phone is charging? Mine never resets and just continues to add up...

Were you trying to exchange a phone? I am going by tomorrow morning to exchange my second iPhone and I don't plan on leaving until I get a new one....$600 for a device that cant even use one of its most basic feature? No way.

I exchanged mine out monday and they guy didn't want to do because he said there was supposed to be an update coming out this week, but because i was in on saturday complaining about that and the scratch in the screen, he ended up doing it. The new phones usage meter is working...

Wow just wow, just shows Apple's hypocrisy. Here's waiting for the update.

yeah... Sometimes ill charge my phone all night (10pm-8am) and ill wake up and my usage metters will be reset from last night ... But have something like 3 hours of usage and standby. Its as if the phone fully charged then used itself from 5am to 8am on its own. On top of that everynight i shut off blue tooth and wifi. But my battery life is very very good. Its just frustrating to one never see the meter completly full and the usage meters never work. Pray for an update...
