Using the iPhone as a modem

Do you know if you can use your iPhone as a modem?
My blackberry pearl used to be able to do that. Web browsing was slow but at least I could use my laptop for email while on the road.
Any thought?

Now I just need to find someone to do it for me because the directions sound like Mandarin to me...
