While many of us “techno-geeks gather outside Apple stores in anticipation of Friday’s 6 pm product launch,” Verizon wants to make sue that you don’t forget about them. We received hundreds of PR pitches everyday, but this one was just sad. First off, it is pretty risky for Verizon to label iPhone owners (or want to be owners) as “techno-geeks”. Not only may they turn “techno-geeks” off to VZW but they are basically shutting themselves out from selling their own ubercool handset that may generate buzz.

So on with the begging… Verizon has announced that VZW stores throughout the New York Metro area are gearing up for what “promises to be a very busy Friday, and weekend as well.” They are anticipating strong demand over this time period and hence “are prepared” to stay open late Friday through Sunday to handle the increase in customer traffic.

As a way to get people to consider to go in late night this weekend on Sunday, July 1, the LG VX 9400 multimedia and TV phone will be just $99.99. It will also come with a FREE music starter kit — stereo headset, CD software, 2 GB memory card & USB cable — a $79.99 value.

Let’s just wait and see how jam packed the stores are on Friday night. Ha.

I'm all for laughing at Verizon, but that phone for $99.99 is a STEAL. If I wasn't getting the iPhone, I would definitely consider that phone.

Personally i think that phone is ugly as junk hahah, i guess im spoiled by the iPhone by now... anyways that phone just doesn't do it for me.

Sprint gave me their brand new HTC handset that's on exclusive to them and not even in retail stores yet for $109.

Have you used this phone, or for that matter, Verizon's tv service? I have used both and they are very underwhelming. First, the phone is no different than any other verizon locked piece of crap phone they currently sell. It uses the same horrible software and UI as well. The only useful "channell" is nbc news and perhaps espn, other wise you will be watching mtv and nickolodeon. Believe me, this and the entire VCast family is TERRIBLY overrated.

Hell yeah it's gonna be a busy day for Verizon! They'll need tons of extra staff on hand just to accommodate all the iPhone buyers who need to cancel their Verizon contracts! :p

But it's still Verizon and CDMA. While their network may be faster, the call quality is not even close. It's hard to beat a good signal on a GSM call. No thanks verizon, you can give away the phones if you want, I'm not interested.

ive had a verizon prepaid for a while now...only reason i got it was because i was waiting for the iPhone and didn't want to get in a contract and most of my friends have verizon so if was free to call them...well a dollar a day too...i ended up paying more for prepaid minutes then i would have on a plan

why even waste the time hahah? i guess i could go in there pretending im interested in getting a phone and then have friend call me and answer the phone... just imagine the verizon guys face when i answer it

I think Verizon's President should be demoted over passing up the iPhone. I'd like to see what the shareholders are going to be saying come Friday.

Seriously, I want to know what that guy was smoking when he thought, "we could pass on this one."

Vcast BS..........can you imagine that bloat ware on the iPhone?

because they want to much control of their phones... they don't like allowing a phone to do TOO much
