It's coming - it's in beta 2 now, and is on the slate for a december/january update release.

Yeah, but what I really think would be cool

Would be an option where you could put your contacts list into "Cover flow" mode, where you could scroll through photos of your contacts, like you do with album covers.:laugh2:

You DO know you had better be ready to back up that statement with some real intel - otherwise get ready to get your flame on...

Oh, and if you DO have any real intel - Steve will hunt you down and sue the beejeebus out of you. Then he'll sit on you until you call him "uncle".

I think the option you were given is a pay service, and I've read that it'sore of a hassle than dialing the actual number.

Hope I'm wrong but i bet we don't hear anymore from the Apple prediction guy.

Quite obviously, I can't report the source... so you can either flame or wait and see if my report is factual. But, I can assure you that what I said is accurate as of today.

Further, a cut and paste patch is nearly ready. It will come in the next update, due for late September/early October. It will work in a similar way to the auto correct, with a bubble option to cut n paste.

Has anyone heard if this is going to be available...speaking a contacts name and having the phone dial hands free?
I had voice-dialing on my treo for an extra $40. I spent a whole day "training" it and half the time, it got the number wrong. I gave up after a while. It was a lot faster to dial directly (although less stylish).

I hope it's voice RECOGNITION like on Motorola Phones - not just voice pattern matching where a particular user has to "train" it by recording each phonebook entry (or each number for digit dialing).

While calling AT&T customer service I heard something bout if you dial a certain number and ull hear a beep or something and you say the persons name you stored it will call that person, Voice dialing I guess. I think you have to pay for it too.

i only want it if it works right... my time playing with it on other phones has never been something i NEED.... a lot of times it called the wrong person... i say derek and it calls dominos pizza... so if they make it work smoothly it would be a great addation... and having to go though every contact and set a voice dial is kinda a pain too

Whether or not you are looking forward to voice dialing may depend upon your past experience. If your experience is the marginally acceptable voice dialing and recognition capabilities of any number or standard cell phones, then your experience would lead you to not care if the iPhone has it or not.

However, if your experience is coming from a Windows based pocket pc phone, using Microsoft's Voice Command software, then you appreciate how accurate and wonderfully easy voice dialing can be.

Here's hoping that Apple can at least do as well as Microsoft has done in this area.
