Just the opposite. I try to keep it on the down low so people don't bother me with questions or ask to play with it.

When the folks around where I work see it, then I am 10 or 15 minutes taking them on a demo of what it does, and also, dispelling rumors as to all the things it isn't.

What I have found is either people choose to love it, or hate it. I happen to love mine, and wish all the folks that hate it would just drop bashing the iPhone and go play with their Blueberries, Blackberries, or dingleberries, or whatever other PDA they happen to be in love with. (Sorry for the rant!)

I agree! I thought being in Silicon Valley there would be tons of people running around with iPhones but that is not the case. I'm running into people all the time who upon seeing my iPhone want to play, touch, demystify it, and suprisingly have not see one before or don't know what all the buzz is about; WOW!

I have gotten weary of having to go through show-and-tell over and over again. On only two occasions have I seen someone else with the phone and when I see people crowding around, I just keep on walking. I suggest that more people just get the phone (which I think is just totally wonderful) or go down to an Apple store and play with. Do that and you'll feel the excitement. :)

I almost never use iPhone on the street or in most public places unless it is "secure", by this I mean there is either security or police, or in a restaurant where you can tell people you don't want to be bothered.

I only show it if someone asks and they look interested. I've shown to several at work but not too many out in public.
