I have been thinking about this a lot, maybe too much
I know many were a bit disappointed (some MUCH more) and I myself was very surprised.
With all the leaks and rumors, even case manufacturers going so far as actually making models for the new idevice.
There were tech drawings floating around showing larger screen dimensions, among other changes.
Then Tuesday hit and many were stunned.
I was not crazy about the design of the 4, and as a home theater geek, was really hoping for more screen real estate. Not that I really watch movies on my phone very much, but maybe I would more if I had a bigger screen with more resolution and better battery life. But I digress....
I am currently on T-Mobile, but when this rumor surfaced:
I went to my local Sprint store to try and glean any information I could. I got the usual runaround "were not supposed to discuss anything like that", and the associate seemed a little incredulous at first. After chatting for a bit, he seemed to loosen up, feeling safe I was not a corporate spy
He said he had heard most of what I had, (except the above mentioned Sprint iPhone 5 exclusivity) but nothing "official" had come through the pipeline yet, so again, all was conjecture at that point.
We talked via email a few times until the iPhone event, since I was trying to see if he had any new info he could pass, but there was none.
At first, I was not interested in the 4S, but feeling I may have to wait another year, and seeing that the 4S was probably a quantum leap from my current 3GS, decided it was time to upgrade.
I went into the store today, and the associate I had developed a rapport with strongly suggested (wink, wink) that I be IN THE STORE on the 14th.
That got me thinking, with the "evidence" above, the clue from the Sprint associate, that perhaps we will se a i5 after all.
I never followed an event so closely, and I know rumors abound, but spec'd drawings of a new design?
Major (give or take) media reporting Sprint iPhone 5 exclusive?
Cases from China and US makers produced by the thousands?
I know it would be unprecedented to have a device launch without being introduced by Apple first, but I for one will be at my local store launch morning. I for sure will be getting at least a 4S, and maybe something even more special.
I imagine Mr. Jobs perhaps orchestrating this, looking for another earth shattering "event" from Apple, and it makes me smile.....
I mean, what would be more stunning than un unrevealed iPhone exclusively being sold on launch day by the newest carrier to offer an iDevice? Maybe 20 billion will get you special treatment.
Best,
