PS - Does anyone know how long it will take for my number from verizon to switch to my iPhone?

There is no credit check involved in-store. Everything is done at home via iTunes, so your dad can do it all.

it seems super odd to me that they would sell you the product before running the credit check. since you cant use the product without the account, and many may not pass the credit check or have ridiculous deposits required... i wanna know whats up here, too.

Your credit score is based on how well you have made payments on time, ie, car loan, house payment.

It would be best to have your dad there to get the credit check done

If not do it at home and have your dad put all his info in when you activate it through iTunes

It would be a full-blown credit check. AT&T will make a check of you credit history. Based on you credit score, you may or may not be approved for a 2 year contract, or may have to pay some sort of deposit amount. Obviously, if you're under 18, you don't have credit, and can't sign for a cellular contract anyway. I would expect that credit checks will be the one thing performed in both AT&T and Apple stores, before you can purchase the iPhone. Otherwise, there would probably end up being a goodly number of people with nothing but an extremely bloody expensive paperweight.

also do the credit check before removing the shrink wrap on your iPhone. because if your credit is a nogo & you open the box...there is a 10% restocking fee (approx $55.00)!

if you are an existing customer do you need to do the check?
For existing AT&T/Cingular Wireless customers, you won't do an actual credit check, per se, instead they'll do an account history check, to make sure your account is in current good standing with the company. They don't want to be giving you an iPhone if you don't actually pay your bill!
