Hey everyone,

I understand that Apple doesn't use Windows. If Apple did use Windows, what free software firewall would they use?

I know the Federal Government would be strictly private. Would Apple be the same way?

I have Windows 7 if that helps.

Ok, you are kinda all over the place here. IF I understand you correctly, you want a free firewall software for windows 7, right?
Why aren't you using the one that Win 7 came with? If you are looking for something with stronger security, go to downloads.com and search for Firewall.

btw, just to clarify, Apple makes their own OS (Called Mac OSX), so they wouldn't use windows.
Not sure what the government has to do with the question...

lol!

glad you said something cause i would've been rude.

1) Apple Mac uses Mac OS which is based on Unix
2) Windows is based on DOS
3) Mac OS has a built in Firewall

I think what you're looking for is an anti-virus program.
A) Mac's don't get viruses for the time being
B) AVG

Like hawk said.... what the heck does the government have to do with OS's

Not to be rude, but a couple things wrong with your post.

2) Windows isn't based on DOS, originally ran on top of DOS, hasn't done that for a long time!
A) Mac's can and have gotten viruses
3) Both Mac & Windows have built in firewall

To the OP, I would recommend Zone Alarm, one of my favorite firewalls for windows. It's better than the built in firewall IMHO.

Not rude at all, but I think you may have misunderstood my post or i wasn't clear enough.

when i said that macs don't get viruses for the time being, i meant it that it's something rare that it happens. maybe what i should have said was that macs don't get viruses even to consider it an issue for the time being

i'm just glad you didn't say ntfs because then i would have thought it was rude. i hope you understand that ntfs is just the format that the hard drive is and the os is based off of another system. i'm not sure if it is or isn't based off of dos, but logically, if it's not unix, then what other classical systems are there? besides, windows still uses dos to install certain software, which to me is a clear indication that it's based on dos. you could be right and i'm sure you may have had more experience with computers than i, but i study operating systems like a religion

ummm... i never said that windows didn't have firewalls built in.

it helps to ask for clarification :sneaky:(y)

Hey everyone,

If Apple did use Windows, they wouldn't be a company makes computers that run a proprietary operating system developed by Apple. Instead, they would be a company that makes Windows-based PC computers, like Dell. They would include the firewall that comes with Windows.

If Apple was a government or private agency that handled confidential information, yes, they would take measures to secure their computer system from unauthorized access. This would be true regardless of the OS they used.

Computers made by Apple include a firewall and people who buy them for private use can secure their own networks. Mac OS X has had viruses, although I don't believe there are currently any in the wild. The OS is certainly not impervious to viruses and other types of malware, although the problem is more prevalent on Windows, so some people choose to run an antivirus program just to be safe.

Keeping Java, Adobe Flash and Reader updated (you don't need Reader on a Mac), and using an adblock and flashblock add-on in your browser will help keep your web-browsing safe on Windows and Mac OS X.

If you are looking for a good, free antivirus program for Windows 7, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. MalwareBytes is a great tool for removing malware when your antivirus program is unable to remove it. Be sure to turn on the Windows firewall in addition to using a router-based firewall.
