What warrants a new iPhone on the spot or repair service?

Just wondering since I'm planning on going to the Apple store tomorrow (I really don't want to drive all that way after a long day and in traffic for an eternity). Honestly unless they have a miracle fix that they can do in the store I don't want to send it off to some repair service.

I guess you can tell your personal stories or if you have any experience with this sort of thing. Not sure what they look for in determining this stuff. My screen shuts on and off (new addition, randomly turns on, no idea why) when it comes back its on the "slide screen". And the jumpy signal. Another new addition I haven't posted was when the signal was jumping I tried to make a call. The call dropped twice after the person answered. Then I had 5 call failed trying to redial. First time it ever happened.

Oh yeah, tech support also said they have the tools at the retail store to do full diagnostics? Now is this something real and useful? or something stupid that I could probably have done on my own?

What have you done yourself so far to try and fix the problem? Reset? Restore? Has nothing worked?

Resets, Restore nothing has changed :(

Kinda ticks me off since its been working great since the first time I dropped it (not a direct fall since it slid down my body, so never worried me as much)
and I was excited it was working just as great as it has been. Then boom all of a sudden it goes psycho in all different directions.

Hmmm, I'm no expert and have not had any problem with mine (and hope I never do!) but I "think" that if your past 14 days, it will be sent off for repair.

You could get lucky I suppose and they may replace it on the spot. Good luck and sorry I couldn't be of any help :(

I'm at like 20 days. I can already forsee that if its going to be the whole send off thing I'm going to be raising hell in the store. (driving all over Atlanta just for the Apple store) Anger Management never really helped me that much

Thanks anyways!

Sorry your phone is misbehaving but...

If you know you're past the 14 day return period, and know that it's highly likely that your phone will be sent off for repairs (as per Apple's policy), why would you be preparing to raise hell and cause a scene? Makes no sense.

I received a brand new phone at the Apple Store after my iPhone stopped picking up the EDGE signal.

I spoke w/ AT&T twice and Apple twice. The second time I spoke w/ Apple Care he made the appointment for me at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store. I walked in and out in about 10 mins. with my new one.

No questions asked.

Im exchanging ;) lol.

I usually go thinking in places that it'll go my way :)

honestly I have a temper and when you pay a significant sum of money to a corporation for a brand new product, you like for it to operate as advertised. Plus before going in I'll be sitting in traffic for an hour and a half or so. All just for going to the Apple store.

I already have on my account a tech support call, so maybe they'll see that.

I refuse to send it off for repairs having owned it for such a short time. I didn't buy a used product and I haven't owned it for months and months, not even a month.

Don't really see how the cost of something relates to the type of service you should get for something, well maybe if are are spending *ALOT* of money, but $600 isn't really that all that much in the greater scheme of things.

Which of the Atlanta stores are you planning on heading to? I have had great service at the Perimeter Apple store with a bad battery on my Macbook that wouldn't charge. The genius asked me nothing, just tried to charge it, it didn't work and gave me a new battery right off the self. I haven't dealt much with the other 2 Apple stores in the area.

Its of course not a lot of money, but if I'm going to pay a significant amount for what I am getting, I want apropriate service. Can I go to the perimeter store even though I didn't buy it there. If I go should I bring my other stores receipt or will it look bad and make it harder to get a new phone since its from a different store

I got a new iPhone! perimeter store was excellent, great service. Also thanked me for my patience (I was a standby on the genius bar so it took like an hour or so after I got to the store, I was fine with it though, I was calm and just took it easy relaxing since I was tired from the long day).
Now I don't have to worry about not having a phone on my businesss trip. (it was getting worse and worse)

The Perimeter Store is my favorite. Great service and really close to where I live. Although I bought my iPhone from the NorthPoint store on the first day since I thought the lines would be shorter there.

My favorite too!

It happened to be the closest store that I'd be nearby at all this week, so I thought I'd go there. About an hour and 10 minutes in traffic, then the hour or so wait, but everyone was real friendly. Chatted with a few of the staff and some customers at the genius bar. I bought mine at northpoint too, I happened to be at that mall one day and said well while I'm here I guess I'll buy the iPhone lol.
