What was your last phone before the iPhone?

My most recent was a Motorola Q.

Before that was a Treo 750. And a 700. And a 650. And a 600.

The iPhone is light years ahead of any of those, especially the Treos. I've never used a more unstable product than the Treo. People complain about their iPhone Safari browser occasionally closing, but I'll take that any day over having to pop the back off a Treo and doing a soft reset every hour because it was locked up.
Amen to that. I Treo for that.

I have the 700P on Verizon...only reason I still have it is because my boss has one and the program he uses to keep times works on my phone as well since it has the Palm OS.

I'm really thinking about deactivating my Verizon phone ($200+) and getting an iPhone but keep the Treo to keep my times. But I'm looking at close to $1000 in the end and I don't think its worth it at all.

What do you guys think?

Motorola RAZR - Which I absolutely hated from day 1.
Treo 650- which I really liked a lot at first then learned to hate. From the inability to clean the screen, to multiple crashes, to complete data loss, the thing was just terrible. I never upgraded to the 700 cause Sprint would only give me $75 off after 8 years as a customer and i refused to spend $200+ on another Treo.

It's really your choice. You're only putting $500-600 into the iPhone, other than if you're under contract, I don't see where the other $400 is coming from. Though as a Treo user sick of popping the back off as you mentioned, I had an iPhone from Day one and the Treo I use sometimes to play Bejewled or as a go between sync for my PC at work. Other than that, I hate to touch it. I'd say it's very much worth it.

My story is actually pretty funny, at school i was known for having the most "ghettoest" phone (in a bad way). but now i can safely say that i went from having the worst cell phone to having the best. anyways i had a Samsung SCH A670 which originally looked like this
http://www.mobiledia.com/phones/images/Samsung/sch-a670.jpg but after a year and a half i "dropped it" and the flip part broke completely off. but it still worked i just needed to use a headset all the time since the hearing part was on the top flip side that broke off. so my phone no longer rang anymore i had to put it on silent every time i turned it on. i had to memorize the menus just to call someone in my phone book like i had to press 3 buttons then start typing there name then i could call them or just dial a number. you could never see or tell who's calling or if you have missed calls or anything. all my friends actually thought it was cool because of how it still worked and everything after being broken in half lol. and i used this phone like that for about 3-4 months lol. this is what it looked like during those 3-4 months till this day.
lol, dude, those phones probably go for $10 on ebay. I think you liked the attention ;)

Anyway, past phones were:
Sprint Moto Q
Sprint Treo 700p
Sprint Treo 650
Cingular Treo 650

iPhone solves a lot of problems these phones presented to me. I just was never fully happy with any of them.

The last main phone was a first edition standard GSM Moto RAZR. I also used a Moto ROKR when I knew I would have time for listening to iTunes.

Well on top of the $630 for the phone...I would have to pay another $250 to cancel my service since I want to keep my phone number. We're at $880 now, plus $60 for the iPhone contract and an activation fee if there is one. That's puts me just under $1000 to do this. So this is the dilemma I'm in right now.

You can't count the monthly contract price. You would have that at your old provider. And the $250 is not the iPhone's fault. That's just SOP for cell providers. I can understand you wanting to wait until after your contract expires though.

i have always been a huge sony ericsson fan, and have had many of their models, my favorites being the k600i, and the s710a. my k600i i only had for like 2-3 weeks before getting tossed into a mud wrestling pit with it in my pocket. needless to say it did not survive. :( my s710a i had for like 2 weeks and decided to attempt to put a new housing on it (bad idea as it is probably the most difficult phone to take apart) i damaged something and lost that phone. i have had the t637 a few times too. recently i have been using the blackjack which is an awesome phone, but not really me. i still have the Samsung d807 too which i think im going back to until i can afford iPhone. unfortunately it has a huge crack on the screen from st. patty's day when i had it in my breast pocket and fell face first onto the sidewalk, the phone being crushed between my chest and the edge of the curb! still works fine though haha! jeeze, come to think of it, im dangerous with phones, and maybe should stay away from the iPhone! i'd kill myself if i let something happen to it! i promise i will be extra extra extra extra extra careful with it.

i also had the razr the first week it came out and was $500. i played with it for 2 days, was the envy of all my friends, realized what a crappy phone it was, and took it back. i HATE motorolas interface, it is so user-not-friendly.
