Sounds like you live in Canada. Apple has yet to announce a carrier for Canada. Stay tuned. There's hope for you.

Where in Canada?

I wonder.... If a Canadian where to go to the US and buy a phone would AT&T allow it to be activated if the customer lived in Canada?

I mean the phone will still work in Canada, although I suspect that you would have to pay International roaming charges, yikes!

About the only way I can think of for a Canadian to get an iPhone would be to have a friend in the US in whose name you can get the service and have the bill sent to them. Probably not very feasable.

I suspect Canada will get the iPhone by January. Probably announced at MacWorld. I can picture Steve on stage now, "iPhone has been a phenomenal success in the US. So far we have sold umpteenbazillion iPhones! (Applause) And now we are going to expand into Canada! (hoots and holllers.) and the UK (people start fainting) and soon we will take over the world!

I guess you will either have to wait until it comes to Canada through Rogers or until someone figures out how to unlock it.

I think you better just get used to waiting. It'll come soon enough and I think it'll be Rogers that gets it.

Nope. They wouldn't sell it to her or set up service with a Canadian address. Even if she lied about the address and then just used it in canada, they would eventually discontinue service due to her constant roaming off the At&t network. That's some of that small print that nobody ever reads in their contract.

i was wondering the other day if someone who lived on the border in canada could use the american AT&T towers if close enough
It would have to be really close. Unlike CDMA, GSM only transmits about 7 miles. If you travel interstates, you should see the GSM towers about every 12 - 14 miles on the side of the road.

I'm just telling you what I've seen publicized since January when the iPhone was announced.
