I agree. I haven't seen any mods yet that interest me.

Now if someone could add the tachyon emissions scanner module, I could finally have my own tricorder! ;)

I'm a graphic artist/art director by trade, and a geek in my life (LOL) so know-how isn't the problem...

I just haven't seen a mod that I think looks better than what Apple gave us out of the box.

I started making my own icons, and even though it might have been more "my taste" or "my style" it still didn't top what Apple already did.

Anyone else feel this way?

(Not that I"m not open to customizing it... but I find myself saying "why... it looks so awesome how it is)...

The only mods I've made are the ringtones using the application mentioned earlier, it rocks. I may mod my phone if I can add 3rd party apps at some ponit.

I want the modders to make the iPhone itself capable of advancing a track when its in sleep mode and your ipod is playing.
Um....
You can do that. On the headphones that came with the iPhone, where the microphone is, if you press it once it will pause the song. If you press it twice (quick) it will skip to the next track.

:)

As for modding ringtones... Yes, I'd like to do that, but I"ll wait for Apple to provide the functionality. Mostly, I'd just like to change the SMS alert sound. As a ringing phone, I actually don't mind it's quiet... I rely more on the vibrate anyway.

wow i'm actually surprised at the number of people who don't want to mod their iPhones. Me personally I think I could never go back to the Stock Icons after modding my iPhone, at first I was too exkeptical, but it was actually very easy,Theres even a Drag and drop program that makes it even easier.
So far I have only used other peoples Background's and Icons, and I just hope someone makes a easy to use template to Make My own icons and background.

I don't think it's a case of being easy or not; I knew I could do it without too much effor.

It's more of a case that I don't care for what I've seen (i.e., OEM stuff looks better to me--sorry!). In addition, it doesn't seem to add anything other than different visuals, and even then it's mostly color and icons. Do I really care about changing the color of my battery-charging icon? Nope, not at all.

Now if the mods let me, say, put a link to Contacts on the main menu, so I don't have to go through the phone app, well that's the kinda thing I'd be interested in.

IMHO, YMMV, etc., etc.

I modded mine, and now I have gone back to stock. Modding was fun, but with the security flaw that has been found, just my own personal preference I want to stick with stock for now. Modding was fun, and adds a nice flair to everything cause there is nothing you cannot mod on the phone. I personally like everything stock anyways. Both my mac computers have the stock wallpaper on them.

nah mines just normal just like my psp, I don't like to tamper with expensive things like that, I'll just wait till Apple comes out with some cool stuff.

Like I started off saying, it's not for a lack of know-how on my part. Until I can come up with a design that is BETTER than what Apple has already come up with, I'm leaving it alone... and honestly, Apple did a pretty darn good job already. Like I said, I've yet to see custom home icons that actually are an improvement. Quite honestly, some of them have been pretty darn ugly and just make me say "why?" Sorry, that's just my opinion.

Someone mentioned how we can customize our computers. Well, other than the basic window colors (on Windows, my Macs are "Stock") and the desktop wallpapers, I don't customize a lot... and honestly, even with my own custom wallpapers they are just photographs I took (because I'm into photography) -- and MOST of the time I never see them! I've typically got multiple programs open anyway, so it's not like there's a lot of time to stare at the desktop.

well some people on here were complaining about how hard it was, a guy even went as far as to say he pay 10 dollars for something instead of modding.

I took my bedroom doorknob apart when I was a kid. Lots of really cool looking pieces that sprang apart...and I wasn't able to put it back together again. I was in trouble. I'm afraid modding my phone would be like that and then what would I tell Erick at the Apple store when I went there with a question? I'm a geek, but not an uber-geek so I'm not willing to risk it. Besides, having those options out there in the future with updates gives me something to look forward to. Now that the wedding's over and iDay has passed, what is there to look forward to besides working 7 days a week and the next episode of the Sopranos?

I have no wish to alter the phone's appearance either. I just want ringtone capability so I can add a louder ringer.

Where is this drag and drop program? I tried looking and didn't see it anywhere.

I didn't mind changing my icons because now it will really look differant than my bosses phone at work. He'll be wondering how I did it!

Been there, tried it , didn't work

I was more concerned with the possible problems than I was with the "me" look. This out- weighed the decision to even buy the phone. I tried it twice, didn't work, so I decided, I wanted something that was the original design. Now if later Apple provides other ways that are put out by Apple, that is a different story. For now, I am happy with the way it is.

No mods here, at least for now

I feel the same way. I spent $600 plus tax on my phone. According to my friends and family, this makes me some kind of uber geek.

However, this uber geek will let others figure out what works. I don't mind spending a few dollars on a program that gives me the other features (i.e. ringtones) that I want.

If the phone had been a lot cheaper, then this would not have been an issue.

Also, anyone figured out how these mods affect the Apple warranty?
