Why won't my pics send?

Whenever I send pics to people, they don't send. A red exclamation mark shows up next to it. Can someone shed a little light on this subject please .

I have I message and SMS both turned on. Will this cause my problem?

I have no problems when I send them in an e-mail.

Do you have 3G or have 3G turned on?

I have 3G and when I'm at home I am connected to wi-fi and I still have trouble.

I've noticed this when trying to send pics with a weak signal (1 bar signal strength).

Can you email one to yourself?

I created a contact to myself and yes it did send, but it also showed up with the red exclamation mark and says message was not sent. It's driving me bonkers.
