I was set to buy the 64GB wifi only as we have Verizon Palm Pre mobile hot spot when needed, but the wifi issue has kept me from clicking on the buy button. I think I will wait just a bit and continue with my Touch. I'm a future Ipad buyer for sure, but really don't want to deal with wifi issues since my Touch is so sure to work all the time with every network I've come into contact with.

Just a note. Most iPads connect to wifi without issues. I would say a small percentage of people come across this problem and I have heard a visit to the Apple store will yield you a replacement fairly easily. I am not convinced it is a design flaw. I believe some units just have defects. Out of 1M the are bound to be some rejects 
Yes, I tend to agree that there will always be some problem units but I don't live near an Apple Store so it will mean sending a unit back, etc. On my photo forum, no one has had a wifi problem of any importance though they are struggling with some other issues related to uploading with camera connector, deleting RAW (camera) files, etc. I could buy from Best Buy where I could exchange if needed but they are totally out, so I sit and wait LOL.
I've had my iPad replaced, I'm convinced it's a bug not the iPad itself. It needs to work on wifi just like the iPod touch does. They need a fix. I looked at all the fixes on Apple forums but again I don't know how to change settings or whatever on Veriizon Fios. I just need the iPad to work with it like everything else does!
it doesn't take much to "trip the switch" and my problem was that i had no idea how to "fix" the initial problems i had. was afraid to change settings, etc. Eventually it just worked the way it was supposed to and i am more than grateful! i did contact Apple; my ISP provider and anyone who I thought could walk me through it. they just did not have an exact answer. it just took care of itself.

Since my last report, my iPad has dropped the wifi signal a couple of times, but it just pops up the dialog to connect to a network, I tap my ssid, and it reconnects. No more asking for password!
And of course, my 3G iPad arrives tomorrow, now that this one is finally working.

My WiFi problems have improved. I have 2 networks, one is an 802.11g running off a Belkin router and a Timecapsule set to 802.11n only. I noticed that when I had the iPad connected to the Timecapsule net, I'd have intermittent and weak connections. Then I noticed a pattern.
Whenever the cordless phone was in use, I was seeing 1 bar on the WiFi indicator and sometimes the connection would appear to hang,a lthough it wouldn't really disconnect me. If I switched over to the Belkin net, the connection would stay pretty solid.
I remembered that our phones operate somewhere in the 5GHz band, potentially the same as 802.11n, so I modified the Wireless setting on the Timecapsule to use a Narrow channel, which reduces interference from other wireless devices.
Voila! The iPad now has a much more reliable connection to the Timecapsule net and using the phone does not appear to degrade the signal.
So, if you're having issues with your connection, see if there is a setting on your router to reduce interference from other devices.

That's really cool you figured it out. I just don't get how to change the router stuff. You might as well have been speaking another langauge because I have no idea what it means. It's all foreign to me. I'm so not technical when is comes to stuff like this.
What kind of router are you using? All routers have a URL address that you type into your browser. It usually asks for a user name and password that you could find easily using google. Once you find that you will come to a setting page where it will have available firmware updates and all the settings we have been discussing. If you want to send me your router make and model I could look it up for you
Mine has the wifi problems but only when connecting to certain routers. Verizon fios routers this thing definitely doesn't like. Always have to enter the wep key.
Since replacements seem easy to get I think I will utilize this since my ipad has a scratch on the screen already.

The router is a Verizon MI424WR. Unfortunately I've already been on the Verizon forums where people have tried different settings, channels, etc. and it's only a temporary fix. They stop dropping signal for awhile but then have to enter their internet password again. There is actually a Verizon tech on there answering questions and he says it has to do with the antenna thats located behind the Apple on the back of the ipad. He said that if thats laid flat it loses signal and its an Apple hardware problem?
I really doubt its a hardware issue at this point. Mine works flawlessly and much better than my iPhone. I have heard the Verizon routers are having troubles.
Be careful. Not all routers have a web interface. Some require you to install a proprietary program to control them, such as the Apple airport series and certain d-link routers
I have the same issues, I think the reason most people that I am seeing are having issues and some are not is because of the different routers. G routers that are putting out 20Mhz signals are not having issues, N+ and G routers that produce a two signals at 20 MHz and 40MHZ have problems. If you have a true dual band router that splits the signal into two separate signals these are not having problems unless the N signal is at 40MHZ in which case you will have to change it 20 MHZ. To recap.
1. Run your router at N only 20MHZ
2. Run router at G, B, A only at 20 MHZ
3. Run (Dual Band Routers only) N on one Band and G,B, and A on another band. Connect iPad to N band only 20 MHZ.

That's pretty interesting. I looked at my Verizon FIOS router setup, but not sure how to change the signal from 40Mhz to 20Mhz. I currently have it set to g only -- but I still experience drops, requiring me to reconnect (re-enter password).

I looked through the manual for your router and I am not seeing a option to change the frequency strength. This leads me to believe that your router is 20Mhz. What security are using, I forgot to mention in the above post that the iPad at least from our experience is not a fan of WEP. So WPA or WPA2 or a combination of both is better. Also when before you connect to your network after you make changes go into wireless settings and for your network choose forget network. Then basically reconnect to it like it was the first time. Noticed my wifi problems went away via of going to wpa from wep. Then noticed my wireless backyard security webcam was not working, runs all the time, along with a wired one. Checking on the webcam, it can only do wep, no joy here, so changed back, got the wifi drops every 4 to 10 minutes. Ran speed test from ipad, Getting download speeds like 3.17 Mbps, 4.97 Mbps, unplugging the wireless webcam, 9.02 Mbps, 8.96Mbps, this is on a 10.00Mbps FIOS, on a G wifi network. With the webcam off I get just a few, or zero wifi drops. I noticed too with the wireless webcam on, safari was taking a long time to display a long web page, like when you have a weak signal. So, you get the problem when your bandwidth goes to 1/2? Or when the bandwidth goes below 5 Mbps? Just guessing, but, it is interesting. Anyone else check their speeds? Do you have good speed, but, still have the wifi problem?

Hello everyone, im having a hard time getting my linksys router (model: befw11s4 ver.4) to work with my iPhone. I can connect to the router no problem and my wifes iPhone can as well, but when we go to safari (or any app that requires internet) it takes FOREVER to load, if it ever loads at all. In safari it pops up saying Cannot Open Page because the sever stopped responding. Every now and then it will catch the signal and load the page, but i would say 9/10 times it doesn't. I have a laptop and a desktop that both have no problems at all when hooked up to the wifi. Both my wifes and my iPhones can connect to other wifi routers with no issues at all so its not the phones (at least not with the hardware).
Is there some settings i can change that will make it work? Im not familiar with this kinda stuff so please be gentle on me
