Just asking...

I'm really adept to MS Outlook in terms of my job planning- Contacts, Mail, Calendar, Tasks, & Notes.
I'm just wondering if iPhone supports seamless sync with this client...

Just wondering and hoping this to be true, even not in the first release, but in the versions that follows.

I believe Apple will include a function or 3rd party software package to do that. If not by a MAC... :laugh2:

I'm sure I read that it wouldn't work with Outlook's push mail server (whatever its obscure M$ name is).

One of the Tech blogs (Engadget?) talked about this being a deal-breaker for many corporate applications.

You are probably right that it won't work with MS Exchange server's push email service. It will however work with a MS Exchange server using IMAP or POP3.

3rd party

It could be possible that 3rd party developers may create a program to make this possible but at the moment with having any idea what the osx os is going to be looking like on the iPhone it would be hard for them to plan ahead. When the iPhone is released you can expect all kinds of crazy things to be put out there like any other electronical component.

If it does not sync with outlook, why buy it?

How do you figure? Please post refs; it'd be very helpful. Thx.

You can sync Outlook calendars and contacts to your iPod via iTunes so it only makes sense that it will work for the iPhone too. When an iPod is connected to a PC there is a "Contact" tab (when the iPod is selected) that contains the setup options. I have never done this, but it seems straight forward.

iPhone will not sync with Outlook (ref).
Thanks for the link, I had missed that one. It was very informative and interesting.

Obviously as we all know the iPhone is a massive project. An undertaking of truly huge proportions. We are witnessing history in the making and I for one find it truly fascinating.

Having read everything I can find on it to this point, has caused me to have an even more comprehensive appreciation for the scope of the project. I believe that there will be a very long road of evolution for the iPhone and one of the best "stories" to follow in a long time.

Fortunately we are getting closer to the actual release date, after which we will at least know the details of the first version and be able to make a more educated decision if the time to buy is now or later.

Cheers...

That does seem logical, although it's possible that iPhone handles contact data differently than iPod. Pogue must've gotten that from somewhere.

If you watch the keynote carefuly he did say "the iPhone will sync with your calendar and contacts on MAC AND Windows". Windows doesn't really have any other calendar programs that are worth mentioning other than outlook.

Email can be synced too, but only via IMAP (possibly iTunes too). IMAP will sync all your folders etc, but is not push in anyway. Although Yahoo! managed to make it push somehow (probably sends a text message when you have new email, forcing the phone to go pick it up. Much like the blackberries, OTA ActiveSync works behind the curtains).
