Just a silly question:
Will my old charger for iPod work for iPhone?
Or it will be a completely new charger customized only for iPhone models.apple may do so as a part of their strategy to boost the sales of iPod accessories and increase the profits thereafter(they are expert in that).

I have no idea but that is an interesting question, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is different like you said so they can boost their profits. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

I don't think they will make the new phone compatible for older charger - reason being same as you specified earlier bossting the sales of another new product.
Also it would be interesting to know how they come up with charging mechanism for two different batteries -phone and music player.

Yes, it's official. You can read this FAQ about iPod accessory compatibility with the new iPhone. In a word, YES.:laugh2:

The addition of the standard iPod 30pin port is great news! All (most?) the current accessories for iPods should still work. I wonder if the iPhone will fit in any iPod accessory that holds, say, a 30GB iPod. Anyone checked the dimensions of the two yet?

iPhone is longer and thinner than 5G ipod. (30gb & 80gb)

The longer part doesn't bother me. Thinner....means they'll have to have some kind of adapter like they do for the iHome stuff. That's not too big of a deal either. Cool, thanks! :)

You will be able to use most iPod accessories with the iPhone, but I don't see why you would want to use your old iPod charger with it when iPhone comes with brand new charger that even has a separate magnetic socket that charges the bluetooth headset. We can probably assume that the iPhone will come with the headset.

all ipod accessories (at least the ones that Apple makes) will work with the iPhone.
