Will the iPhone become more business friendly

I am a salesman and have just switched from my Treo650 to the iPhone. I have over 500 contacts. I would love to have the ability to group the contacts by their company name. Is this possible? It is very hard to match the contact with the company I am looking for with just their name.

Also I am currently using Vitalist http://www.vitalist.com/ for my todo list. They have just upgraded to be iPhone friendly. I like this site, but would love a todo widget that is native to the iPhone. I could do without the stocks widget. The notes widget does not sync with my desktop. What's up with that.

All in all I love my new phone, but it definitely needs improvement for my needs.

1. You can group contacts on the PC side. Not sure on how it works with Mac but iTunes does sync the groups from Windows Address Book.

2. You'll have to wait on any 3rd party apps or changing around the home screen. We're limited to web apps only for now.

Not to mention the lack of Exchange Activesync functionality. Personally, I can't see how people use this as a businesss phone, unless they don't use Microsoft products. I also think Apple is going to need to put out an app that handles the syncing instead of iTunes. They won't get any real businesss adoption if iTunes is a required install on company equipment.

Amen. Yeah I wouldn't be expecting the iPhone to be seriously adopted by any mainstream businessses anytime soon. At least not until you can send out a group email (via a group contact) or BCC someone. But who cares? This thing rocks.

Treo 650 Same Problem

My treo 650 will be my phone again after I return my iPhone today. Too many problems for me to justify the price vs. the shortcomings. I never could get my numbers from the treo to the iPhone and the store couldn't either.

I definitely would not go back to the Treo, although I still carry it in the car to record my mileage for tax purposes. Just today I was waiting for an appointment in the lobby and I could surf youtube. It was great. This phone needs some upgrades for sure, but for a 1.0 version it is superb.

I figured out how to group my contacts by their corporate names. I just made a folder for each account and moved my contacts into the proper accounts.

Vitalist has been a godsend. I can sync it with my google calendar then to iCal with Spanning Sync and then sync it all in iTunes in the evening. Also Spanning Sync updates google calendar info in to my iCal and vise-versa every 10 min. These tiny Web 2.0 programs load fairly quickly even on the edge network.
