Will US iPhones work with UK Companies?

I live in the UK and would like an iPhone as soon as possible. If I got one from the US, would it work with the uk mobile phone companies (specifically O2)?

Good question... not without being unlocked, which probably won't happen anytime soon unless you know a current Cingular customer.

I think everything will work except the visual voicemail feature. I think that is
cingular/At&t specific.

I actually think if you do get it unlocked, the only thing that will work would be voice. Because knowing Apple, they will probably restrict access to setting your sms and mms servers. So that means to text's or pictures/videos.
