Wondering how to find your "official" AT&T store"

I couldn't find a definite answer anywhere so I finally wrote AT&T and got this....

Unfortunately this doesn't work. None of the results show the "authorized dealer" tag that Alicia Grady suggests you look for. And because I worked with Cingular, I know the corporate stores and the authorized retailers.

The differences to look for is whether the location can take all types of bill payments. AUTHORIZED RETAILERS CAN NOT TAKE CASH FOR BILL PAYMENT. Only corporately owned stores can take cash. Authorized retailers can only take credit card payments for bill payments.



Also, only corporate stores can do Prepaid TDMA - GSM migrations. Authorized retailers don't have this ability listed on their locations.



When looking for a corporate At&t/Cingular store, look for this:



Prepaid - TDMA to GSM Migration


or this:

Bill Payments - All

If you see one of those two details listed, then it will be a corporately owned store.

They don't list them like that in the old original Cingular areas. But regardless, this is the only corporate store on your list:

The store closest to my home is the main corporate" store, in my area....
It has been impossible to get anyone on the phone there, for about 5 years, now.

To be honest, the local franchise holders don't like telling people that they aren't a corporate store. If you were to ask most of them that same question, they would respond with, "Yes. We are a Cingular/At&t store. We've got the signs to prove it."

And remember some of the employees that work there might not even know they aren't a corporate store.

One way to check is to go to the store and look in the window.

My store had a poster announcing them closing at 4:30pm on the 29th and re-opening at 6:00pm to sell the phone.

Don't know that all stores have them up yet, but if they do have it up, at least you would know they are a store that is eligible.

That means they aren't a corporate location, only a franchise. Sorry, but they won't be selling the iPhone on June 29th. Either find another AT&T location, or find an Apple store nearby.

Don't waste your time there. They won't have the iPhone for a while. That's a franchised store.
