In addition, HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward.

From report at This Is My Next - TechCrunch and others reporting it too. Still early reports prior to HP's earnings call later - but sounds like bleak news for webOS.

Oh, and had no idea which forum to put this in - News seemed best but does not allow posts I think. Please move as desired.

Crazy news. They are saying something about looking for a hardware partner. If they haven't found one, it's officially done.

Yeah, really crazy. I knew the TouchPad was doing terrible, but thought HP had some commitment to doing something with the platform as a whole. Now they're in and out of it in under two years.

Wow! They gave up quick. The thought their latest tablet was "the first tablet to get it right"? :)

At this point, the best thing HP can do is sell WebOS to the highest bidder. Apple could probably gobble it up easy enough, but if it does go on sale, it would be really interesting to see RIM grab it.
Doesn't really matter who does though, because unless it's HTC (in response to google buying Motorola Mobility) no one will take advantage of it.

It's too late for anyone to swoop in and make something of it, unless that something is a webOS GUI overlay on Android.

I'm in for the TouchPad at $150.

Scratch that, I'm in for two 32GB TouchPads, at $134 each. That's an absolutely killer deal.

Follow these directions to a tee if you are interested. I'd recommend you read my HP TouchPad review, but then you'd likely miss out. It's certainly worth it at that price, just don't expect apps.

Hard to pass up for $100, starting tomorrow. I called my local Best Buy and the sales rep said they were told that they couldn't respond to confirm the pricing and to check back in the morning.
Follow the directions in the link above, save yourself the grief of having to head over the Best Buy. Make sure you use Google Chrome's Incognito Mode. Sign up for the EPP using code 2727. Then login to EPP and Boom. $149 for the 32GB. Add paper or something to get you over $150 and then use coupon code SAVE30HP.

Just followed the directions with Google Chrome's incognito mode, signed up and logged in under EPP using the 2727 code, but the pricing still shows $379.99 and also shows out of stock, although that isn't saying I some how missed a step.

Login to EPP, then go back to SlickDeals and click on the link to the 32GB TP. That's the trick.

Thank you for your help Chris, unfortunately I couldn't get it to work last night, tried for over an hour. I tried Best Buy and the Staples next door right when they opened, first in line and Best Buy was out and Staples said they never received a stock. I got to Office Depot 10 minutes after they opened and they said they sold out by 0903. I thought it would be great for my in-laws, oh well. We may end up waiting for the IPad 2 to drop in pricing before the 3 comes out and get them a 3G model or maybe even a Zoom if they are interested in getting a tablet sooner.

If someone ported iOS over to the TouchPad, they could sell it again at full price and it would run out the door.
Would agree but that would be a world where iOS source code was available. I'm pretty sure I'm a fan in that world but then Jobs would likely have had Next buy Android Inc. and maybe Microsoft was at the helm of Apple.

That last what if doesn't fit. In what world would iOS source be available. I know, 7 years from know, Jobs is retired and Google acquired Apple. ;)
