I just upgraded through Premier last month and then switched to the iPhone on Monday. As far as I know, they renewed our contract for 2 years (not 2 years on top of our just renewed 2 year contract).

U can purchase iPhone without upgrade elgibilty!

Folks, I did, and paid $599 for the 8gb an dropped the other data phone since they cancelled the service oon my present phone.

Check this out... I confirmed it with two stores.

You can only purchase an iPhone IF you are eligible for an upgrade OR you purchase a new line.

So if you currently have a Cingular/AT&T plan and you are not eligible for an upgrade you cannot purchase an iPhone... Unless you add a line for an extra 9.99 a month. Which also means you will need a separate data plan for the iPhone as well.

If you don't believe this call your local store... they have this info.[/quote]

I am a AT&T customer and I am NOT eligible for an upgrade. I purchased an iPhone and activated it without any problems at all. All I had to do was extend my contract by 2 years.

you can get the phone even if your not eligible. I was due for an upgrade in august, bought the phone activated it and its work. I don't know why people are telling you that you have to add another line they are wrong. You just renew your contract for another two years.

Ouch. Somebody got screwed by their local store.
I'd go back and make them release you from the new contract and start over. Maybe they should buy you lunch and apologize, too.
Yeah, that'll happen...
Seriously, the ream team really got you on that one. Probably every other customer they could, too.

Um yes, My last cingular contract isn't over and i bought my iPhone and connected it. Checked online and my new contract expires two years from july. So no one has to wait till their contact is over, unless you have a carrier other than cingular/att.

W00t! Not only did I get the iPhone a week ago today, but my account still shows that my line is eligible for a phone upgrade on 8/17/2007! I guess Mom is going to get a new phone sooner than she thought.
