Hey,
I'm a writer for Bootleg magazine (www.bootlegontheweb.com), A weekly alternative based in Clemson, SC, and I'm doing some research on user reactions to the iPhone. If you want, answer some or all of the questions below. If you have any questions about me or the article, you can reach me at keithgood@hotmail.com. Cheers!

What is your iPhone acquisition story? Did you have to wait in line for hours on end or shell out top dollar on eBay?

Does the iPhone live up to the hype?

What are your favorite features/things about the iPhone?

What about the iPhone has disappointed you?

How satisfied are you with your purchase, with 10 being completely sastisfied and 1 being completely dissatsified?

And finally, where do you live? You can include your real name if you wish, but your user name will work just as well.

What is your iPhone acquisition story? Did you have to wait in line for hours on end or shell out top dollar on eBay?
--Waiting in line for 3 hours or so at an att store.

Does the iPhone live up to the hype?
--Its somewhere between the its the greatest device ever and its the most overrated device ever. There have been two different kinds of hype if you ask me. I think its closer to the greatest device ever but there is no question that its not perfect.

What are your favorite features/things about the iPhone?
--Tough one, a lot of features I enjoy. Probably google maps, i use it everyday. Visual Voicemail is a close second.

What about the iPhone has disappointed you?
--no video recorder, no mms, downloadable or customizable ringtones--but i knew that before i bought it (i figured and still do that they will be added through updates). before I bought it i didn't know there was no flash support for the web broswer, that's disapointing.

How satisfied are you with your purchase, with 10 being completely sastisfied and 1 being completely dissatsified?
--9, a masterpiece that just needs the detail work.

And finally, where do you live? You can include your real name if you wish, but your user name will work just as well.

Nope, I waited about 5 days after iDay and walked right into my Chicagoland Apple store and picked mine up with a minimal delay. I paid $599 for my 8GB model.

Does the iPhone live up to the hype?
I didn't really get into the "hype", I did read a lot about it and as far as I remember, the phone has lived up to everything I heard from Apple... not necessarily everything I heard from random internet users though. Is it everything I anticipated? Not really. Is it the coolest phone I've ever owned? Definitely. Am I happy with my purchase? Absolutely.

What are your favorite features/things about the iPhone?
The Safari web browser is my favorite feature followed up by the phone itself, the iPod and the GUI. It's by far the most intuitive and easy to use phone I've ever owned... and with the large brilliant screen, it's just pure digital bliss for my daily commute to the office.

What about the iPhone has disappointed you?
I can't say I'm truly disappointed about anything, but my biggest complaints are lack of Exchange integration, lack of a video recorder, no cut/paste, and unable to install 3rd party apps. I'm looking forward to the first major update and any new features it may offer. But as the phone stands now I'm completely happy with it. Oh, and AT&T sucks... I would much rather have Verison.

How satisfied are you with your purchase, with 10 being completely sastisfied and 1 being completely dissatsified?
I would say I'm a solid 9.

I live in Indiana and work in Chicago. My real name is Tim.

i just went into att and asked if they had an iPhone on second day of release and they said yes. i asked them a few questions and decided to buy it.

the phone does live up to the hype and more.

favorite features on the phone is by far the internet and maps. i now can use the ipod part on road trips though without having another piece of electronic and came in very handy last week on a 4 day vac down in iowa, i didn't have to pick up a phone book once to find a place, restaurant or number. very slick and is the future for phones for sure.

the only thing that this phone has disappointed me is well EDGE, granted its no where near wifi speed, but not dial up either. most of the times im on some sort of wifi host, but when im not and i don't get full bars for the edge, its really kinda slow, if it has full bars it works great. i hope att makes edge a lot faster in the future. thats the only bad part, however it has never failed me yet to get soemthing. the one thing i do also dislike is that it does not support Flash sites, or allow downloads.

i would say im about a 10

i live in minnesota

I waited for about 10 minutes outside when the guy from AT&T came around asking everyone why they were there and what there names were. I told him I wanted to check out one, before I bought it. He took me inside were they had 4 and I played with for about 10 minutes before they called my name. 10 Minutes later I was at home. So 30 minutes in and out including driving time, on i-Tunes day

Does the iPhone live up to the hype?
Yes,.. I've worked for communication companies in the past and played with all the latest and greatest gadgets. I love it, even more than my 2 previous razor phones.

What are your favorite features/things about the iPhone?
The email and functioning keyboard is great. I'm still amazed at the touch screen and how well it works.

What about the iPhone has disappointed you?
No Voice dial capability. No manual way to adjust music. Everything is driven by i-Tunes

How satisfied are you with your purchase, with 10 being completely sastisfied and 1 being completely dissatsified?
9.5

What is your iPhone acquisition story? Did you have to wait in line for hours on end or shell out top dollar on eBay?
I waited two weeks after the iPhone released. I did not have to wait in any lines at the AT&T store. Went very smooth.

Does the iPhone live up to the hype?
Yes, and if future updates give us more applications, it will exceed the hype.

What are your favorite features/things about the iPhone?
The touchscreen and The iPod feature

What about the iPhone has disappointed you?
Small bugs that should have been worked out in beta testing that never happened.

How satisfied are you with your purchase, with 10 being completely sastisfied and 1 being completely dissatsified?
9 for now. Can easily be a 10 if certain things get ironed out with updates.

My reply to your survery:

I bought it at the Apple store about a week and a half after release. Checked the availibility on the Apple Website on a Saturday night and found that almost all Apple stores near me had them in stock. They said to come an hour before the store opens because of lines. At this point I expected not to wait in line but when I got there (1 hour and 15 minutes before the store opened) there was about 10 people in line, but they had plenty of phones so we all got one, even the people that came behind me.

Does the iPhone live up to the hype?
Absolutely, everyone is jealous of my phone!

What are your favorite features/things about the iPhone?
Safari, google map, ipod.
I spend way more time on this phone than I ever expected. It is way more than just a phone.

What about the iPhone has disappointed you?
No picture/video messaging. My family is big on sending each other pixs and video but now I can't participate in that.:(

My reply to your survery:
I only waited 4 hours in line at the mall on iphone-day. Apple gave us some water bottles and a store downstairs gave us free pillows. And we all bonded. I even managed to get interviewed on the local Hispanic news, even though I don't speak Spanish.
I've been overwhelmingly happy about my iPhone. I've had none of the problems reported here and there. It has never crashed. I've been able to install my own classical music ring tones, the only hacking I wanted to do. I can access my main computer from anywhere with iPhone Remote.
I used to be able to do more with my Treo for certain things, like video and voice recording, voice-dialing, etc...but let's face it, I would rarely use it, the quality was very poor and my voice commands would be misunderstood half the time. I ended up going back to dialing-by-stylet. Much faster.
I give the iPhone a 10 out of 10 for what it does. And I can't wait for upgrades so it does even more, in its 10-out-of-10 fashion.
